UniCare has elected to exit the commercial sale of both Group and Individual health business in the state of Illinois effective January 1, 2010.
BCBSIL and Unicare have made an arrangement for BCBSIL to assume that business without being subject to medical underwriting.
In the next couple of days, BCBSIL will be providing every current Group and Individual health policy holder an offer to “map over” to the most closely matched BCBSIL policy at UNICARE pricing. (Note that UNICARE age rates and BCBSIL composite rates, so there may be adjustments in order to get them onto a composite rate formula).
Brokers should receive copies of the above mentioned offers in advance of their groups.
THIS IS A REQUIRED “OPT IN” PROCESS TO MAKE THE TRANSITION TO BCBSIL IN RESPONSE TO THE MAILING THAT THE GROUPS (AND INDIVIDUALS) WILL BE RECEIVING FROM BCBSIL DIRECTLY.
You may opt in via the online tool, fax or mail.
The most important date brokers, groups and individuals need to know is that they must have their response to BCBSIL by 12/1/09 in order for the guarantee issue offer to be implemented.
IF YOUR CLIENT MISSES THAT 12/1/09 DATE, THEY WILL LOSE THE GUARANTEE ISSUE OFFER AND WILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH MEDICAL UNDERWRITING.
